Ideal stem, leaf, and spike proportions
Efficient and productive
Most popular white variety in NW Europe
Essential is part of the Floreals product group. This group consists of varieties with large spikes (more than 50% of the stem is made up of spike), a compact length, and slim leaves below the lowermost bud. These varieties are also selected for vase life. In production, gladioli from the Floreals group are efficient and productive, thanks to a relatively short forcing time, uniform flowering, and a low loss percentage. Essential is by far the biggest white variety in the North-West Europe gladioli market. This is the number one of average-priced white varieties because of its sales staging and vase-life look. Essential is not suitable for flower cultivation when the average night temperatures exceed 15 degrees, as the risk of Burkholderia would be too great. When the average night temperatures are lower, Essential is a healthy grower, possibly the most beautiful white on the market.
The photos of this variety will be supplemented and improved next summer with the flowers from our show garden for a clearer and more beautiful image.
